Research Initiatives: Funding Approved! Tuesday, September 27, 2005
We are pleased to inform the membership of DIRECTIONS that not one but two research projects have been approved for funding.
The first is sponsored by a working group that began meeting about a year ago to discuss the needs of the aging population with an intellectual disability. We applied to the Public Health Agency of Canada, Atlantic Region Population Heath Fund for a three year research grant to fully investigate this important issue. Marlene MacLellan from NSCC was the primary grant research writer and we are appreciative of her efforts in leading this project. A copy of the full research proposal is available at the DIRECTIONS office.
The second project is again the result of a working group that came together to answer the question What are the aggregate service needs of individuals in Nova Scotia with an intellectual disability and what would be required to create a comprehensive and sustainable information system? The grant application was to the Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation: Community Research Alliance Grant. This is a large question and the eight months of research funds only begin to answer this question. One objective of this project is to write the major grant application to implement the information system and test its viability. The results of this grant have significant implications for informing us on the service needs of our clients, who is requiring service and when. A copy of the full research proposal is available at the DIRECTIONS office.
